Great fun had by all.

Great fun had by all.

Temora Flyers Inc – Fly it Forward 6-11 March 2017

On Saturday 11 March 13 aircraft and pilots, along with other Temora Flyers volunteers in support, flew with 65 ladies for their first time in a small aircraft. The day started early, to take advantage of the cooler temperatures.

After a safety briefing, local pilots and their aircraft happily volunteered their time to share the fun of flying and encourage ladies who had never considered flying or aviation to take to the skies.

Aircraft ranged in size from two-seat Light Sport Aircraft to one four seat aircraft, with speeds from the 50 knots of the Legal Eagle to the powerful 140 knot F1 Rocket and all speeds in between.

During the day, a Royal Australia Air Force CT-4 and King Air flew in for participants to look over, and the Defence force recruiting tent, FA-18 Hornet flight simulator, ACO simulator and Virtual simulator were kept busy, talking flying and the possibility of careers in aviation.

Local sport and recreational aviation administrative organisation Recreational Aviation Australia completed three interviews of TFI female pilots and female defence force personnel, to promote the possibility of female participation in aviation careers ranging from the obvious pilot role, to support personnel like ATC, engineering, catering and more. One defence force recruiting officer was heard to comment for every pilot, there are 20 or more support personnel required.

By midday, the flood of women had reduced to a trickle, although the day’s activities were not over. We had a volunteers dinner that night, for our 30 helpers that made a very successful ending to the day, with volunteers taking the opportunity to share stories about their day with each other and enjoy a BBQ.
