Within the scope of 6-12 March 2017 Women of Aviation Worldwide (WOAW) Week activities, under the mentorship of Can EREL, Turkish Aeronautical Association organized a talk given by the sky lover Burcu ŞAHİNKAYA at Kaleiçi Rotary Club to increase the recognition of and raise awareness about women in the aviation sector.
In the talk, Burcu ŞAHİNKAYA, who worked as F-16 pilot for the Turkish Air Force, and became Captain Pilot of Airbus 320/321 planes after her retirement with the rank of squadron leader, informed the listeners about the types of airplanes which she flied. She also shared her stories about how she decided to become an F-16 pilot, her experiences in this process, her flights, and exciting moments she had with the women students. She talked about how she became a civil pilot after her retirement, and mentioned the effects of being a military and civil pilot in a woman’s life. She ended her talk by underlying that women can certainly be extremely successful in this profession.
