First Flights for Women And Girls
Orange Aero Club hosted it’s second Women With Wings Orange event during Women of Aviation Week, 6 to 12 March 2017, coinciding with World Women’s Day.
76 girls and women aged 10 and upwards were able to experience the joys of flying in light aircraft for the first time – and they loved it! The flights were made possible due to the generosity of local aircraft and pilots, including charter and training organisations, who donated aircraft, time and expertise to make it happen.
In all there were eleven aircraft, all 2 and 4 seaters, and these were flown by 14 pilots, two of whom were female.
As well as the flights, the girls and their families and friends were able to check over plenty of planes, including an Air Ambulance operated by NSW Ambulance Service. They were also able to talk to pilots and aero club volunteers, as well as the ambulance crew, about becoming involved in aviation at many levels.
